Travel to the Gold Coast
By plane - The Gold Coast Airport is located in Coolangatta and has frequent connections from major Australian cities and some international flights. A alternative is to fly into Brisbane Airport, and catch the direct train (90 minutes from International Terminal to Robina). By train - Queensland Rail runs an electric CityTrain service from Brisbane to Nerang and Robina, with connecting buses to Surfers Paradise, Coolangatta, and into northern New South Wales.
Things to see on the Gold Coast
Surfers Paradise Beach There are 40 km of beaches to see and almost all are patrolled by volunteer and professional lifesavers. Greenmount beach in Coolangatta offers the most spectacular scenery and views up the coast and across to the famous Snapper Rocks surfing break, home of the Quiksilver Pro. Tallebudgeera Creek is a popular swimming lagoon with families, Burleigh Heads and Kirra are home to world-renowned waves and Surfers Paradise is home to backpackers, beach volleyball, and countless tourists.
The Hinterland Referred to as "the green behind the gold" (a reference to Australia's national colours - green and gold), the Gold Coast Hinterland is home to three national parks, numerous mountains, creeks, waterfalls valleys, and natural rock formations. The area is mostly covered in sub-tropical rainforest, and the way to see the HInterland is by car or on a bus tour.

Currumbin Bird Sanctuary
Since its opening in 2005 the Q1 building has been a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. The observation deck at level 77 is the highest of its kind in Queensland and offers expansive views in all directions.
Be wary of street vendors promising free tickets to theme parks. You generally see these people on Cavill Mall in Sufers Paradise. They promise free theme park tickets in return for 3-4 hours of your time watching a time share presentation. Many legitimate vendors sell discounted theme park tickets.
Surfers Paradise 'famous' Meter Maids
Bikini-clad Meter Maids were introduced in Surfers Paradise in 1965 in an attempt to put a positive spin on new parking regulations. To avoid tickets being issued for expired parking, the Meter Maids dispense coins into the meter and leave a calling card under the windscreen wiper of the vehicle. The Maids are still a popular part of the Surfers Paradise culture but the scheme is now run by private enterprise.
