Longreach is a town located in central western Queensland, Australia and is approximately 700 kilometres from the coast, west of Rockhampton. The town lies on the Tropic of Capricorn.The town is named after the 'long reach' of the ThomsonRiver on which it is situated and was gazetted a town in 1887.

Things to see and do in Longreach
Qantas - The first commercial flight by Qantas in an Avro 504K took off from Longreach on 7 February 1921 at 10.30 am and took 3 hours and 10 minutes to reach Winton. One of the airline's original hangars remains in use at the Longreach Airport. The town is now the home of the Qantas Founders Outback Museum and provides visitors with a unique insight into the early history of aviation in Australia.
Longreach is also the home of the Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame, which was officially opened in 1988 by Queen Elizabeth II. The aim of the centre is to showcase the history and the culture of life in rural Australia.
