Detour through Wild West ghost towns, get an insight into Native American history and culture and experience an incredible cross-section of America.
Days 1- 2 Chicago
This city boasts the tallest building in America - the Willis Tower. How it came to be is another story - sidle up to a local at a jazz bar and get the full story.
Day 3 Springfield
Choose to get an in-depth look into the life and times of Abraham Lincoln and visit the former president's home and tomb.
Days 4-5 St Louis
Perhaps spend an afternoon languidly on a Mississippi river boat cruise or get refreshed at the famous Anheuser-Busch brewery.
Day 6 Tulsa
Discover Native American artefacts at the Meramec Caverns before arriving in Tulsa. Choose to pay homage to Route 66 at a museum dedicated to this infamous stretch of road.
Day 7 Oklahoma City
Travel along iconic Route 66 to Oklahoma City, home to 39 Native-American Indian tribes.
Day 8 Amarillo
Head over to Clinton for a chance to visit the Route 66 Museum before crossing into Texas. Everything here is super-sized - hearty eaters should try the 72-ounce steak at the Big Texan Steak Ranch, while rev-heads will will get a kick out of the Cadillac Ranch.
Days 9-10 Santa Fe
Prepare for a whirlwind tour into the Wild West. Go back in time at Pecos National History Preserve where 14th century ruins of the Pueblos can be examined. Admire the adobe-style buildings in Santa Fe.
Day 11 Gallup
Discover the stunning bluffs and caves of El Malpais National Monument, the spectacular El Morro National Monument and the traditional Indian village of Zuni Pueblo.
Days 12-13 Grand Canyon
Wander around the surreal Petrified Forest National Park which holds one of the world's largest and most colourful concentrations of petrified wood. Get snap-happy at the Grand Canyon. Go for a walk on the canyon's rim or get a bird's-eye view on an optional helicopter ride.
Days 14-15 Las Vegas
There's something for everyone here - from casinos and stage shows to all-you-can-eat buffets and amusement parks.
Day 16 Victorville
Drive through the Mojave Desert to Victorville, stopping by Route 66 towns along the way.
Day 17 Los Angeles
Follow the road to Santa Monica, the end of the famous Route 66, before ending the adventure in Los Angeles. From the Beverly Hills world of the rich and famous to the eclectic crowd of Venice Beach, LA is full of strange and bizarre spectacles, so stay on to see them all.
