Day 1 New York
Arrive early to walk around Central Park or mingle with artists in Soho.
Day 2 Finger Lakes
Containing some of the USA's deepest lakes, this region also boasts excellent vineyards.
Day 3 Niagara Falls
Be stunned by the sight and sound of 2.5 million litres of cascading water.
Day 4 Lake Erie
With a combined surface area the size of the UK, this lake is a playground for all kinds of sports, from swimming in summer to ice fishing in winter.
Days 5-6 Chicago
Discover Chicago's gangster legends at street level, or for a more elevated view, take a trip to Willis Tower.
Day 7 Madison
Indulge in a knees-up at a Milwaukee microbrewery before heading to Madison, reputedly the USA's safest and friendliest town.
Days 8-9 Badlands National Park
After a long drive across the Great Plains, arrive at Badlands, a region of windswept geological oddities. Camp at a cowboy ranch.
Day 10 Mount Rushmore/ Custer State Park
There's no missing the heads of state at this colossal landmark. Explore Custer and observe roaming bison.
Day 11 Devil's Tower National Monument
Admire the carved image of legendary 19th century Sioux chief, Crazy Horse. Experience gold-rush fever in Deadwood and marvel at Devil's Tower.
Day 12 Cody
Known as the Rodeo Capital of the World, Cody boasts the USA's only seven-nights-a-week rodeo.
Days 13-15 Yellowstone National Park
Skirt around the geysers which bubble from below the earth. Spot grizzlies, elk and coyotes.
Day 16 Jackson Hole
Venture into Grand Teton National Park, home to dramatic scenery and iconic wildlife. Continue to Jackson Hole, a picturesque valley.
Day 17 Salt Lake City
Pass through distinctly European villages en route to Bear Lake. Enter the city of Mormons and visit Temple Square.
Day 18 Reno/ Lake Tahoe
Drive west to the Great Salt Flats, an expanse that's saltier than the ocean. Admire the surreal scenery before travelling to Reno in the Sierra Nevada.
Days 19-20 Yosemite National Park
Gaze in awe at giant redwoods, colossal cliffs and rushing waterfalls.
Day 21 Napa Valley/ Sonoma Valley
Seek out gold-rush thrills in Old Sacramento before trying the local drop at in the Napa and Sonoma Valleys.
Day 22 San Francisco
End the adventure with a drive into San Fran over the Golden Gate Bridge.
