Full Itinerary
Take time out from the tumultuous streets of Bangkok to pay tribute to POWs who perished building the infamous Bridge over the River Kwai. Delve into WWII history in the war museum and at the Allied Cemetery in Kanchanaburi. Discover the ancient ruins of World Heritage listed Ayuthaya. Round off the adventure amid the buzz of Bangkok's night markets and colourful, chaotic streets. Day 1 Bangkok/ Kanchanaburi Rise early and leave the chaotic energy of Bangkok behind, swapping it instead for views over sugar-cane fields bowing in the breeze, and limestone mountains dotting laidback Kanchanaburi. Although this scenic town is peaceful today, its history tells a much sadder tale. It was here that thousands died building the infamous Death Railway. Spend the day discovering this area, learning about its history and seeing the many places that commemorate the role it played in WWII. Take a tour of the WWII Museum, visit the Allied War Cemetery and take a ride over the Bridge over the River Kwai. Day 2 Kanchanaburi/ River Kwai Pay a visit to the Hellfire Pass Memorial, built to honour those who died while constructing the Burma-Thailand 'Death Railway'. Leave the river behind and journey into the Erawan National Park, famous for its cascading seven-tiered waterfall. Cool off in the refreshing waters, and perhaps take a one-hour climb to the top of the waterfall, which is said to resemble Erawan, the three-headed elephant of Hindu mythology. Enjoy a Thai-style picnic lunch before returning to Kanchanaburi in the late afternoon. Day 3 Ayuthaya/ Bangkok Call into Ayuthaya, one of the ancient capitals of Siam and a UNESCO-listed site. Take a guided tour of the ruins to learn about the region's history. In the afternoon visit the Bang Pa-In Summer Palace on the banks of the Chao Praya River to admire its ornate architecture and perfectly manicured gardens. Head back into Bangkok in the afternoon and bid farewell to the adventure.
