This 6 day package is designed for the adventure travellers who want to see more of Laos. Starting with an overnight train to Northern Thailand, we take you across the Mekong River, through the jungle-clad mountains of Northern Laos to Luang Nam Tha, on the border with China. Here you will hike through the Nam Ha Nature Reserve. The trip ends in Luang Prabang, one of the gems of Southeast Asia (Visa upon arrival for Laos is available at the border).

Transfer to Hualamphong Railway Station (approximately US$8 by taxi from hotel) where you will board the overnight train (sleeper carraige) to Chiang Mai (ticket included).

Day 2 Mon / Thu

Upon arrival into Chiang Mai you will be met by our ClubBackpacker representative outside the Railway Station and accompanied to the Chiang Mai bus station. From here you will travel by airconditioned, public bus to Chiang Rai (ticket included). Upon arrival at Chiang Rai bus station you will transfer to your hotel (approximately US$3 by tuk tuk)

Day 3 Tue / Fri

After breakfast a driver will collect you at 8am and take you to the Chiang Khong boarder. After passing through Thai Immigration take the boat (approximately US$3) and cruise to the other side of the Mekong River where a ClubBackpacker representative will be waiting for you. You will then travel through to Luang Namtha which is located near Nam Ha National Biodiversity Conservation Area. This nature reserve is covered by tropical rainforest and is wedged between the Nam Ha and Nam Tha rivers. At the hotel you will receive a briefing for the one day trek starting on the following day.

Day 4 Wed / Sat

After breakfast you will begin your one day trek (around 6 to 7 hours) into the Nam Ha NPA. Along the way you will see villagers collecting forest products, tending livestock or working their upland fields. You will trek along a track up to the Akha village of Nam Yang where you will learn about the life of the Akha in the hills. An Akha hunter will accompany you and display his bird calling skills. Before returning to the valley, the tour visits an Akha village at the highest point. If time allows, the tour also includes a stop at That Poum Pouk, Luang Namtha’s most ancient and newest Stupa.

After breakfast at 8am you will transfer to the the main bus station in Luang Namtha. Your scenic bus journey through to Luang Prabang will depart at 9am. This will take a full day. Package concludes on arrival into Luang Prabang.
